Hokkaido: Updates

It’s been a really tough month. Lots of ups and downs. While we were getting good news about the number of Covid-19 infections going down in Hokkaido, other parts of Japan were seeing their numbers increase. It finally reached the culmination when Prime Minister Abe declared a state of emergency in seven different prefectures–excluding Hokkaido.

Okay.

Not quite sure what to make of that, but that still has not lessened my desire to avoid crowds or my responsibility to stop the spread of the disease.

But then the lockdown got lifted and we’re seeing an increase in the numbers again these past two days. And now I’m just reeling. It’s like having the rug pulled out from under you.

It’s been a month since my last post. I had to take some time off because the news in Japan and the US, or pretty much the entire world, was pretty depressing. I’m just hoping that things calm down. I’m also praying for the safety of family and friends all over the world.
